Festivals of Amritsar reflects to the vibrant cultural and the traditional extravaganza. The festivals of Amritsar are connected to the different religious and the mythical significance. The festivals of the Amritsar are renowned by the excited citizens of the city.

Many of the popular Gurus of the Sikh have visited this city at the certain times to make this land the holy land. This land is populated by the cheerful people who are very keen to take the pleasure of the every second of the life.

Actually the entire Punjab is populated by the people who are very excited to celebrate even the very simple event with the zeal and the equal fanfare. In fact the festivals of Amritsar and the common event that took place are celebrated by the local community with the more of the energy. Some of the prominent festivals of Amritsar are mentioned as below:


Ram Tirath Fair: This is considered as the significant religious event of the city. This fair is organized at place which is known as the Ram Tirath. From the city centre of the Amritsar this place is located at a distance of the 11 km. This place is considered as the pilgrimage site for the Punjab at which the fair took place.

Basant Panchami: This is a festival which stands as the important one in the district. This festival is more famously celebrated at the Gurudwara of the Chheharta Sahib which hosts the festival with the suitable support by the local community The significant attraction which takes place during this festival is the kite flying which is very old tradition related with this festival. The Bhandara is also held during this festival where the visitor can have the lunch which is free.

Guru Purab: It is one of the important festivals of Amritsar. Every year two of the festival takes place. One is celebrated in the month of the November when it is the birthday of the Guru Nanak Devji and the other one is celebrated in the month of the January when it is the birthday of the Guru Gobind Singhji. Both the festivals are celebrated with the great enthusiasm and the energy. The langars are organized free of cost at the time of Guru Purab.

Lohri: This festival is celebrated on the January 13 as the mark of the starting of the winters. The main attention is thus provided to the women and the children. As for the bride the Lohri is considered as the most significant. The children dance and sing for the Prasad of the Lohri.
