The culture of a place is clearly visible in the dance and music of the place. Andhra Pradesh is also one such state which has a rich culture which showcases itself in the folk dances performed in Andhra Pradesh. It is proudly famous for it main classic dance art, the Kuchipudi Dance.

It is few of the difficult classical dances which takes a lot of perseverance from the learner. The name of this art originated from the village that is situated just a few miles away from the Vijayawada, which is located near the Krishna delta. This dance art is thousands of years old and dates back to around third century B.C.

Apart from the classical kuchipudi, there are various folkdances of Andhra Pradesh as well. These folk dances are unique as they belong to different tribes and clans.


Folkdances are a happy companion to the folk theater which is the chief source of entertainment for these tribes. Some of the folkdances in Andhra Pradesh performed by these tribes are Bathakamma, Mathuri, Gobbi, Dhamal, Dappu, Dandaria and Vadhyam. These folkdances are also often performed at the special events to show the merriment of the heart.

Veeraanatyam is another very popular form of dance that is performed by the community that claims Veerabhadra to be there predecessor. The performer of this art needs a lot of energy as it has vigorous actions and steps which are performed along with instruments like Soolam, Dolu, Veeranam and Tasha. Veerebhadra was actually a gaint, who originated out of a strand of hair of Lord shiva and that when Lord Shiva performed this dance when he was agitated by the insult and humiliation.

Besides, the religious and the tribal folk dances, there are others like Lambadi, which performed mainly by the farmers and the clansmen of nomadic tribes. The actions and the songs of this dance mainly concern the daily task and duties of the farmers.

The folk dances and modern dances of this state are very interesting and colorful. As the above discussion shows, the dances in Andhra Pradesh are so much full of life and color that people who visit this region enjoy those dances. The place is known for its colorful and bright dances. Andhra Pradesh is a very beautiful place. It is very rich in culture. People of Andhra Pradesh are really good at the local dances. These dances are colorful and attractive.
