While you visit India you already would have experienced a wide cultural diversity ruling the regions of the country, and when it comes Assam the trend continues.

In other words, in Assam there are many communities, and they have their own customs and rituals. The culture of these communities is visible from the dance and music of these communities.

There are different dances in Assam. Most famous of all is the Bihu dance. Bihu is the known for its rhythmic richness and the dancers are often found flinging and taking brisk step on the fast beats of the music.

The passionate Bihu dance is a favorite among young men and women as they love to sway their bodies over the swift musical notes.

Satriya Nritya is also one among the traditional dances of Assam and the most favorable time to view this dance is the winter season and that too especially in Guwahati. Every year a dance festival is organized representing the beautiful folk dances of Assam by the students of dance academy.

Barpeta's Bhortal Nritya is a part of Sankari culture that requires six to ten dancers at a time for a performance. The instrument that accompanies the dancers is Cynbrol. This dance is an important part of the Barpeta festival where people dance and enjoy feeling the spirit of festivity in air.

Tea Folk's Jumur Nach is the one that exist for more than a hundred years. It is special dance that is performed by the tea planter tribes. This dance is been adapted or rather it is a synthesized form of the Chah Baganar Jumur Nach. Although a group of men as well as women together dance in a circle but women alone can also perform this dance. The tea folk’s dance is a common site for the tourists visiting the tea gardens of Assam.

India is very rich in performing arts. Every part of India performs different kinds of dances. There is a traditional and local touch to the dances that are performed by the people of Assam. The people of Assam are very much interested in traditional dances. These dances are very colorful and enjoyable. A lot of people enjoy these dances. These dances in Assam are one of the cultural reasons of the ever increasing number of visitors in Assam. Assam is a very nice place. It is visited by lots of people every year. The local dance of the Assam state is enjoyed by most of the visitors.
