Assam is a northeastern state of India which shares its borders with Bhutan, Bangladesh and other Indian states like Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizorum, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

History

The history of Assam supports the existence of human settlement since the Stone Age. The area was entirely covered with hills and proved to be congenial for human settlements. There have been many rulers that ruled the state, and the evidence of there rule exists in the relics preserved.

The culture of the state is also influenced by the history that brought necessary changes in the socio-economic structure. Therefore Assamese culture is kind of hybrid which is visible in the milestones of Assamese culture.

The rich culture is brought down from the kingdoms of Kamarupa, Salastambhas, Palas, Ahom dynasty, Koch Kingdom and many more. Also the effect of colonization cannot be evaded from the culture of the state.

Natives

The Natives of Assam are basically can be differentiated on the basis of two groups which is the tribal and the non-tribal people. Together they constitute the population of Assam. The mangoloids, caucasoids and Austroloids are migrators that mingled in the Indian ambiance and became Indians themselves.

The largest river delta, the Brahmaputra delta is formed here in Assam only which makes the state rich in alluvial soil. This also has been a reason why a large part of the state is thick dense forest.

Since time immemorial, Assam is known for its rich craft making .The art of craft making is heritage that is inherited by posterity by its ancestors. The sophistication and simplicity of the hand made craft pieces will completely mesmerize you whether it is unique silk cloth or bamboo articles. You will also find here terracotta pottery items. Assam handloom industry is known for its quality weaving and the mosaic pattern that is weaved with great dexterity by the weavers.

The forests of Assam and the areas lying close to Assam are very popular. Due to the popularity of this place as a forested region many people from all parts of the world visit it.
