Dances are a part of any culture; especially the Indian culture is incomplete without songs and dance. Bandhavgarh dance, India is also no exception. Any event or an occasion is initiated and completed with various types of dances. The event looks deserted or isolated without cultural programs and participants taking part in it also do it with enthusiasm.

Bandhavgarh dances are in various types. But, the western influence cannot be seen or the modern dances have no room in Bandhavgarh collections.

Madhya Pradesh has always been and still is to a very large extent dominated by the tribal population. However, it is not surprising to see the ethnic music and dance of Madhya Pradesh being so tribal in nature. Bandhavgarh dance, India is a part of every significant event.


The Maria Gond tribes are a colorful sector who celebrates all their events associated with the famous tradition of dance. The marriages are incomplete without the spectacular dance called the Gaur. Bandhavgarh dances costume also is totally different from the rest of the people and tribes.

The Marias marriage ceremony is simple with a dance and a feast. But the dress of the Maria Gond for the dance is made of raw silk, feathers and bison horn. This is given from the father to son.

Bandhavgarh dances, India includes their neighbors, the Murias who are known for their traditional drum dances known as Mandri. This is danced by boys who dance and play the drums. Sometimes girls join them. Bandhavgarh dance movements and the steps are complicated such that it involves jumping, kneeling and gyrating.

It is celebration and dancing all over India during harvest and so are the tribals of Madhya Pradesh. This Bandhavgarh dance is different. The women in Bundelkhand region perform the Jawara dance. They skillfully balance the baskets on their heads and the dance is fast paced that they do it without using their hands to hold the baskets.

Bandhavgarh dance, India also comprises of the folk theatre where the men portray the historical characters, folk legends about warriors and kings. The folk dances of this state are to some extent highly influenced by the neighboring state of Rajasthan.

The women dance in full swirls holding the ghughat and the other on the waist. Bandhavgarh dance comprises of interesting tribal dances of Madhya Pradesh such as Phag (a sword dance) and Lota (a dance where women balance filled pitchers of water on the heads). All the dances are unique and graceful.
