There is nothing specified as Chandigarh cuisine. It is the Punjabi food which is part of the Chandigarh cuisine. It mainly consists of rotis, naan and parathas. Butter, ghee and cream are extensively used in this form of cuisine.

Gravy is basically prepared from onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and species. As a matter of fact the culture of every place includes its cuisines.

Jalebi, rabri, kulfi, besan ladoo are some of the traditional sweets prepared here. Some of the appetizers are poodina jeera paani, lassi, sardai and sirke waale pyaaz

Chole-bathure is the most loved and famous dish of Chandigarh cuisine. It is available at every nook and corner of the city. Rajma-chawal, ma ki dal are dishes that belong exclusively to Punjab.

Phirni a desert served chilled in earthenware bowls, gulab jamuns and barfi are prepared from khoya.

Paneer based dishes of Chandigarh are loved over all or India. Tandoor a multi-purpose equipment is the hallmark of Punjabi kitchen. Dhaba-a roadside eatery is a prominent feature of Punjab and Chandigarh region.

Chandigarh cuisine just like its Punjabi counterpart is high in calories and cholesterol and unhealthy of fatty substances used in it. Sarson ka saag and makki di roti with blobs of butter are winter cuisine and pride of this region. Nevertheless it is loved by people of all regions and the diet conscious do not mind going on a binge. The secret of these mouth-watering delicacies are harmonious combination of species and tempering that follows. The dishes from this region are a delight to the senses.
