Chhattisgarh was formed on 1 November, 2000. Its area is about 1, 36,034 sq. km. Raipur is the capital of Chhattisgarh. Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand are its neighboring states. The literacy rate is 64.7%.
There are a total of 16 districts in the state of Chittisgarh. They are Bastar, Bilaspur, Dantewada, Dhamtri, Durg, Janjgir Champa, Kanker, Kabirdham, Korba, Koria, Mahasamud, Rajgarh, Rajpur, Rajnandgaon and Sarguja.

Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajgarh, Jagdalpur, Ambikapur, Raj Nandgaon, Durg, Bhilai and Dhamtari are its main towns. Mahanadi, Indravati, Pairi, Hasdo, Son, Sabari are its major rivers. Maikala range and Ramgarh hills are its chief mountains.
Udanti, Pamed, Samarsot, Sitnadi, Achankmar, Badalkhole, Gomardhs, Bhoram Deo, Indravati national park, Sanjay national park and Kangerghati national parks are some of the wildlife reserves of this region. This region is rich in minerals. Copper, coal, iron, limestone, manganese and a diamond reserve is found here.
Agricultural and forest products include, Tendu leaves, chironji, harhar, baheda, mahu flowers and sal seeds- which are predominantly found.
Most of the industries here are mineral based like BALCO or Bhilai steel plant.
The state has 9 universities. Pola, Nawa khai, Dussehara, Diwali, holi, Govardhan Puja are the main festivals celebrated.
This region has a good network of road and railways. The region is reachable from all corners of the country. The region is a well developed one. It is developing even more all because of the education and strong economic base of the state.
