These varied habitats provide the tourists with a wide array of fauna to see and enjoy. There are Wild Asses, Asiatic Lions, Black Bucks, Great Indian Bustards and Four Horned Antelopes in Gujarat. These fauna are an important part of the nation’s heritage and they are placed inside sanctuaries in a bid to save them from the ever widening and ever threatening chasm of extinction that threatens to engulf them.

Wildlife

Black Buck National Park is sited at Bhavnagar and the suitable grasslands have helped this place in conserving Black Buck, Lesser Florican and Wolf. This sanctuary has utmost population of black bucks. Black Bucks are graceful to look at. This animal was commonly found in the plains, but today its limitations are only to national park. The lower part of this buck is white and the upper part is black in color. Its horns are striking. The female buck is brown in color without horns. The varied species preserved here also includes jungle cats, Jackals, wild pigs, Rodents and Hares.

Gir National Park is especially to conserve Lions. Here you can see lions in their natural surroundings. Besides lions, there are leopards and many distinct birds such as Woodpeckers Flamingo, Bonnells Eagle and Crested Serpent Eagle. Marine National park shelters various sea creatures such as turtles, snakes, sponges, sea mammals, water birds and algae. The Wild Ass Sanctuary is sited in Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. It shelters the endangered species called Wild Ass. This was seen in West Pakistan and South Iran, but today it is only in this sanctuary.
