Haridwar is considered as the gateway to god. The sacred land of Haridwar is the place where every moment is celebrated by the people who have the devotional feelings. Many festivals are celebrated in Haridwar.

Haridwar festivals are colorful and enjoyable. The Haridwar city rejoices at many festivals which keep the city atmosphere going and makes it crowded at most times in the years. There are three major festivals of Haridwar that the city enjoy and celebrate with full swing.

The three main festivals of Haridwar are:
Kumbh Fair- it is the only fair which the city of Haridwar organizes and which alone gather a crowds of millions of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.


The holy dip on this day is considered to make the people sacred and happy for their coming lives. The urge for being happy and sacred the huge crowd comes in every twelve year. The major story that lays behind gathering if such a huge crowd is that it is supposed to be the place where the sacred nectar (Amrit) drops were fallen at the time of the fight between the gods and the demons.

So at the time span of twelve years the gate made open for the large number of people to come and have a bath at the holy Ganga. However being the famous fair the people all around the world mainly of Indian origin wait whole heartedly for the Kumbh Fair. It is one of the most important festivals of Haridwar.

Ardh Kumbh- Ardh kumbh is the name given to the fair that is celebrated to rejoice the holy bath after the six years. The holy bath at this time is supposed to lead you to the Moksha or Nirvana. The Ardh Kumbh is another fair and festival that the city celebrates with full happiness and enthusiasm. The Ardh kumbh is celebrated in every six years. All the prominent personalities from all over the world come to have the holy dip at the time of the Ardh Kumbh.It is another important Haridwar festival.

Holi & Diwali- apart from the main fair like festivals that the city celebrate then comes the festivals which the whole nation celebrates and along with them Haridwar as well. Holi is celebrated with full enthusiasm and with large number of colors which can be seen at the Ghats of Ganga. On the other hand Diwali is considered as the festival of light which make the city of Haridwar to glow up in lights at the time of nights. This festival of Haridwar is also very important. All these Haridwar festivals are colorful.
