Haridwar is one of those few places in India which offers nature and the spiritual path go hand in hand. The city of Haridwar has many beautiful temples however along with it the Haridwar wildlife is also an amazing must see things fact that people will know when they hear about the Chilla Sanctuary.

Haridwar wildlife is also preserved in a great manner which can be seen by the presence of the large number of tress standing on the land of Haridwar. As far as the animals are concerned Chilla sanctuary holds the responsibility for such a wonderful experience which makes the travel to Haridwar a most memorable experience.

The Chilla sanctuary is famous for Haridwar wildlife especially the adventure of the elephants through the sanctuary which used to make news. However the sanctuary is famous for the elephants and many other different types of birds and if you are lucky then you can get a chance to see some of the tigers as well as some of the bears which are very rare in the sanctuary.


The chills bird Sanctuary is the only sanctuary that Haridwar possesses. Along with many temples and river Ganga another phase of Haridwar can be seen through the Chilla Sanctuary. Haridwar wildlife is well preserved due to this.

The best time for visiting the sanctuary is considered as to be mid- June because this is the season when the animals can be easily seen at the sanctuary. The Chilla Sanctuary holds a proximity to the nearby Dam which is also a place worth seeing. The wildlife at Haridwar is at the brim of extinction and the sanctuaries like Chilla is an effort to save this extincting wildlife of Haridwar.

The Chilla Sanctuary is basically a part of the Raja Ji national Park. The measured area which the boundary of the Chilla sanctuary covers is 240 Sq Km. The sanctuary is supposed to have the 23 mammal species and along with it 315 different type of Fauna variety.

Any nature lover will love the wildlife of Haridwar which is indeed a great place to be in though out the year. The river has different type of fishes which can attract and excite the fishers. The fishing at the Chilla sanctuary is allowed only by the permission by the Forester or the Ranger of the regions of you want top reach sanctuary then make it before the dusk and after dawn so that you can enjoy full.
