Haryana is a golden tourist destination in India; it can be called as a ‘young state’ as it was formed only in the recent times by the splitting of Punjab.

Haryana is basically an agricultural state, but has developed industrially as regions are measured according to their advancements in the modern weight balance of the world.

Haryana has also started picking up prominence as a tourist destination. Haryana borders the national capital, Delhi in the north, the west and the south directions.

So it is extremely easy for international tourists to access Haryana. Tourism in Haryana is developing slowly by promoting the splendid destinations that it possesses.

Original Attractions

There is a place called Surajkund near Delhi. It was constructed by Raja Suraj Pal who belonged to the Tomar dynasty in the 10th AD. It is a retreat as it gives a break from the regular city life. The Badkhal Lake is also a tourist attraction. The lake offers water sports such as kayaking, canoeing or even a plain, old boat ride. There is also a luxury yacht for interested tourists. The original attraction of the Badkhal Lake is some huts that are constructed at an altitude to provide the occupants wonderful scenery and the birds during the winters.

Manmade attractions

Karna Lake is a manmade lake and perfectly linked to Delhi on the National Highway. This manmade lake is named after Karna, the epic Mahabharata hero. The Karna Lake is carved in a marshy region and this lake is situated in such a place that it would be beautiful to have charming cottages. The waters of this lake are home to darers, geese, kingfishers and ducks. Haryana has numerous lake retreats. The Tilyar Lake sited at Rohtak is of great attraction to tourists as it facilitates kayaking and boating.

Other Attractions

Damdama Lake is also adventurous and as it has facilities for activities such as rock climbing on the Aravali ranges, kayaking, canoeing, trekking and cycling are available. Adjacent to Damdama Lake is Sohna. This acquired its name as Sohna because in the nearby waters gold was found in ancient times. Sohna is popular for Car Rally and many motorists take refuge and have a good picnic here. The Yadavindra Gardens is a Mughal garden and is beautiful. The other significant sites are the Gurudwara Sadbhiti, Brahma Sarovar, Rajghat, Sannihit Sarovar, and Thaneswar Tirtha. Especially, Thaneswar is the choice of Hindus as Lord Shiva is represented in the lingam form and was initially worshipped here. The Pathar Masjid and Chini Masjid are also excellent Islamic monuments making the devotees and tourists to visit frequently.
