Climate
Himachal Pradesh is segmented in two parts. The southern part is the plains and the northern part has a temperate summer and extreme cold winter with heavy snowfall. The rainfall is nearly 180 cms. The ideal time to go to Himachal Pradesh is between the months of Mid May to October.
People and Culture
Himachal Pradesh people lead a very quiet and simple life. Their main activity is focused on orchards, flocks and fields. The languages spoken are Hindi and Pahari. The population comprise of hill tribes such as Gujaris, Lahulis, Gadis, Kinnauris, Rajputs and Pangwalis. This region people have kept their identity alive and this is obvious in their festivals and fairs that are rich in song, dance and music. Festivals such as Shivaratri in Feb or March, Mata festival in March, Kangra valley festival in April, Shimla summer festival in May, Kulu Dusshera in October and Renuka fair in November keeps this region immersed in celebrations and colors.
Adventure sports
Himachal Pradesh has deep gorges, mountain lakes, Alpine meadows and thick forests. This region has an array on adventure activities such as trekking, skiing, ice-skating, mountain cycling, camping, fishing, rock climbing and mountaineering. |
