Jammu and Kashmir has three tourist regions namely the foothills that are present in Jammu, the lakes and the valleys in Kashmir and the plains at a higher elevation as well as the splendid mountains of Ladakh.

Climate of Jammu and Kashmir

The climate of this region is contradictory. During summer the heat breaks in the foothills. From October, Jammu becomes a pleasant destination and the best time to enjoy the Kashmir adventures is during May and September.

Culture of Jammu and Kashmir

The Kashmir valley has maximum population of Muslims in the Gilgit district of the Pakistani sector, while the Hindus dictate the Jammu region. Ladakh region is highly influenced by Buddhism. The language spoken is Kashmiri and this is influenced by Sanskrit. The majority populations reside in the lower areas of the valley. The temples and caves of Kashmir reveal the strong bind of Indian culture. It is believed the south classical dances had been practiced here. A dance performed by Kashmiri women is known as Hafiza. Recently, Bacha Nagma is a dance performed by boys disguised like women.

Adventure Sports

Summer season is a rigorous sports season. There are many sports such as water skiing on Nagin Lakes and Srinagar’s Dal. Water trekking allows exploring the entire valley using a boat. Camping, trout fishing and mountaineering expedition are few of the adventure sports. The Siachen glacier is the largest to test the fittest. Kashmir is beautiful and the houseboats offer you a real stay.
