is a great concern and vast efforts are being carried out to preserve
it as it is part of invaluable national heritage. Wild animals have
always fascinated man.
It is for this reason that man has hunted down many species resulting
in the extinction of several species of animals as well as birds and
also the endangerment of several fauna.
Many wildlife sanctuaries have been established in a bid to protect all the diverse wildlife.

Influence of Sanctuaries
India
like the other countries in the world has setup numerous wildlife
sanctuaries in an attempt to save its wildlife. Jammu and Kashmir also
has several wildlife sanctuaries to prevent its biological wealth from
witnessing the catastrophic face of extinction. These wildlife
sanctuaries enjoy a pleasant climate as Jammu and Kashmir is itself
bordered by the Himalayan Mountains. The sanctuaries are always flooded
with tourists as they want to witness the wildlife in controlled
environments. The tourists recommend these sanctuaries to their friends
and also their near and dear and revisit it themselves so the number of
tourists visiting the sanctuaries is always huge.

Dachigam
National Park preserves the endangered species such as musk deer,
leopards and Hangul. Overa Wildlife Sanctuary is popular for its animal
and plant species. The animals sheltered are Musk Deer, Hangul, Langurs
and snow leopards. The birds such as Mynah, Himalayan Thrush, Griffon
Vulture and many plants such as pines, mushrooms, and various types of
grasses.
Gulmarg
Biosphere Reserve has sheltered endangered species such as Musk Deer,
Brown Bear, Hangul, Snow Leopard and Fox. The birds include snow cock,
blue rock pigeon, Jungle crow and Kashmir Roller. The Jasrota wildlife
sanctuary takes care of various plantations and is a natural habitat
for Barking Deer, Cheetal, Rhesus Monkey and Wild Boar. |
