Kanchipuram is known as the “City of Temples” and is one of the most sacred cities in India. The city is famous all over the world for the many exquisite temples that are present in the city. There is a belief that Kanchipuram once had thousand temples.

The Kanchipuram temples were not built by a single ruler. They are the results of the architectural achievements during several dynasties. As a result of being built under different dynasties, the Kanchipuram temples, India show different architectural styles. One can also see a blend of different styles of architecture, in various temples that are present in the city.

There are many Kanchipuram temples. The Varadaraja Temple is one of them. There is the Vishnu Kanchi around this particular temple. Similarly, there is a Shiva Kanchi near the Ekambareshwar Temple and Shakti is worshipped around the Kamakshi Amman Temple.


There are many Kanchipuram temples, India that are famous for their traditions and other such religious reasons. Kanchipuram is one of the holiest cities in India. This is one of the reasons for the rise of numerous hotels. The temples that are present in the city are said to be most sacred and are believed to house some of the most powerful gods.

Some of the prominent Kanchipuram temples, India are the Kailashnatha temple. This is the oldest temple built in the early styles and is a significant example of Dravidian architecture. The complex of this temple yet looks beautiful and is a reminiscent of the original grandeur.

The shrines inside the temple are dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and their children Ganesh and Murugan. This can be denoted as a family temple. Kanchipuram temples are many and the Sri Ekambaranathar temple is also dedicated to Lord Shiva and is the largest temples in the Kanchipuram city.

The chola rulers contributed to this temple. The pronounced feature of this magnificent temple is it is thousand pillared mandapam or hall.

Kanchipuram temples, India are prominent and among them also some have utmost significance such as the Kamakshi Amman temple, Vaikuntha Perumal temple, Devarajaswami temple, Kumara Kottam and Varadaraja temple. Kanchipuram temples are mostly built in the ancient periods and the sanctums of such temples are huge.

The processions are taken on chariots and these chariots also look very beautiful. The sculptures inside these temples depict the history of each temple and the explanatory details are in an early century script. The different postures of the God and Goddesses are really worth watching.
