Wildlife is a very important part of the various attractions in the city. There are several animals and birds in all these places. There are several visitors to these places as many people are curious to know about the animals that can live in a place that is as cold as Kodaikanal.

Kodaikanal wildlife has greatly decreased as the numbers of giant Malabar squirrels, panthers and civet cats are falling steadily. Apart from these animals, there are many animals such as the flying squirrel in Kodai. The flying squirrels spread out and glide from tree to tree.

Kodaikanal wildlife includes various colorful birds such as Flycatchers- Grey headed orange and black. The lake is found to be inhabited with Common Kingfisher, Pond Heron, Moorhens, Brahminy kite, Large Pied wagtail, Painted snipe, Nilgiri Pipit and many other also inhabit the lake.

Kodaikanal wildlife, India also includes the birds visiting in the winter are the Rosefinch, the leaf warblers, the Blue Chat and many other leaf warblers. The birds found here are rare as some are migratory birds. This is of great attraction to visitors as they do not watch so many birds at a stretch.
