Introduction
Lakshadweep islands are the collection of 36 islands which are located in Arabian Sea. Out of these islands only 11 of the islands are colonized. The current inhabitants of this island are about 65000.

The islands are about 200-400 km off the coast of kerala. This is the nominal supporting unit of India which adds nearly about 400,000 sq km of ocean to the India’s special financial region. The location of the islands is on the top of socio-financial necessities that have made communication and the transport division the time stripe of the islands.

The charm of Lakshadweep Island lies in its remoteness. It is the beautiful island which is densely covered with coconut palms and is threaded by the unbroken line of sand.

History:
For Lakshadweep not very much is known. However since the 7th century enough proofs exists to part jointly to give the history of the islands. The population was fully Hindu before the 7th century. The people were forcefully changed to Islam by Prophet Mohammed and Hazrat Ubaidullah. History too, came alive in folk ballads that women would chant during their household works.

The enchanting aspects of these islands is due to the biologically fromed, coral reef over many centuries. It extends the coast giving Lakshadweep its unique staure.Before moving into the hands of British, Tippu sultan holds its way to the island. The union territory was formed in 1956 and it was named Lakshadweep in 1973. All the islands now constitute one district for administration with four tehsils.

Geography:
The coral island in Arabian Sea forms the smallest union territory of Lakshadweep. It consists of 36 islands which covers an area of 32 sq km. These islands scattered between 8 degree and 12 degree 30’ north latitude and between 71 degree and 74 degree east longitude. It lies about 220 to 440 km from the coastal region of kerala. In 1964 the administration has shifted to Kavaratti Island. Though it is one of the smallest union territories it includes an area of 4200 sq km.

It has fabulous economic potentialities. Malayalam is the language spoken in all islands except minicoy. Because of the social and economic conditions the population has been classified as scheduled tribes. Scheduled castes exist in Lakshadweep group of islands. Climate condition is thus similar to the coast of kerala. The average rainfall is about 1600 mm in a year. This is the pollution free coral Island.
