Tourism in Manali

Maps India > Travel to India >Tourism in Manali >

People escape from the searing heat of summer in India's more southerly states by coming to Manali. Honeymoon tourism in Manali brigs many to celebrate their marriages in an unforgettable setting, others want to have adventures and meet creatures, landscapes and challenges the like of which exist in few places on Earth.

Sports tourism in Manali such as mountaineering, hiking, trekking and river-rafting has always been more popular in the area around Manali than almost any other place in India, and other sports have gradually been introduced, with varying degrees of success.

Kayaking and mountain-biking have enjoyed an upswing in interest from the young, as has trekking, Paragliding fits in very well with the peacefulness of the area, allowing both the flier and other living entities in the environment to enjoy or ignore each other as desired.

Heli-skiing, on the other hand, may please those who are doing the skiing but has a negative impact on people and animals over a wide area and should be discouraged by tour operators and anyone else in a position to help stop this unfortunate practice. Tourism in Manali is growing in importance. Manali tourism is becoming really important. Manali tourism is full of fun. Manali tourism is becoming really popular now.

The people of the area wear such wonderful colorful clothing, as though ensuring that the sight of one another will always be a pleasure - a tip that could, perhaps, usefully be taken by people in many cold and austere parts of the world where it would be a good idea to cheer up and enjoy the simple things in life a little more. Manali tourism is well developed. Tourism in Manali is increasing day by day.

At the head of the Kullu valley, Manali perches 2050 meters above sea level, extending along the banks of the river Beas and gazing out like a protective, if somewhat aloof, mother over the valley and the mountains. It gets very cold in winter but the good news is that, if you have forgotten to bring enough warm clothing but remembered to pack your wallet, you will soon be able to look as colorful and stay as toasty warm in your newly-purchased clothing as any local!

There is an endless list of quality tourism possibilities around Manali – the area is probably such a hit with honeymooners because even to glance out of the window of one’s hotel room is an unforgettable experience! Whether part of a group or all alone, there are plenty of activities to suit the whole gamut of pockets and potentials. One might trek into a wildlife preservation zone with an experienced guide, to try and spot a rare leopard or shop ‘til you drop for incredibly beautiful jewelry, pottery, needlework and apparel made locally can all be viewed and purchased.

The long and short of tourism to Manali, Queen of India’s Hills, is that, in the height of summer, the tourist areas can get crowded and young tourists can sometimes seem to forget that they are guests in the area and should try to be good ambassadors for their homes. More peaceful vacations can be had in spring and fall when Manali is less thronged. By the same token, one can’t blame the locals for wanting to pack as many tourists into the relatively short summer season as they can – the region has few other strings to its economic bow and let’s face it – the people of Manali certainly ‘do’ tourism well!
