Dances of Meghalaya
Meghalaya is very famous for its traditional dance all over the world. The traditional dances of Meghalaya are very much attached with the festivals. There are different traditional dance for different festivals in Meghalaya. You can find different traditional dance for different events in Meghalaya.

The events on which these traditional dances are based are social occasions, religious, funeral, agriculture, recreational and many much other events. Meghalaya is also famous for the traditional music. There is a tribal community in Meghalaya which famous for its traditional music and folk songs.

This tribal community of Meghalaya, which is famous for music and folk song, is called Garos. Garos have music and folk song for every events and festivals, which are celeberated in Meghalaya. The events on which this Garos community performs are festivals, birth, marriage, love, heroic and on many such events.

They perform music and folk songs with the help of drums and flute. The Khasis and Jaintias tribes are also famous for their music and folk dance. These folk dance and music are based on the hills, lakes and waterfalls. They also perform with to express love of their land. They perform music and songs with the help of drums, pipes and duitara.

Nongkrem DanceThe Nongkrem dance of the Meghalaya is very famous. This dance is specially performed by the people to thanks God. This religious dance is performed during a festival. Nongkrem dance is also dome for the good harvest, prosperity and peace. This dance is organized in the month of October and November during the year. Nongkrem dance is organized in the capital of the Khyrim which is near Shillong.

Shad Dance
Shad dance is a thanksgiving dance which is performed during the festivals. This is known as thank giving dance, which is performed during the spring season. You can see Shad dance near the foothills of Khasi. This dance is performed by the menfolk and virgins in a very traditional way. Men wear colorful costumes for this dance. This dance is performed with the help of many musical instruments, which are pipes and drums. These musical instruments are called Tangmuri.

Behdeinkhlam Dance
Behdeinkhlam dance is the traditional dance of Meghalaya, which is performed during the month of July. Behdeinkhlam dance is performed during the festivals of Jaintias. This dance is performed to pray for the blessing for a good harvest.
