Do you know about the dances that are performed in Mizoram? Khullam is a word defining about the dance that is performed for guests. Well, this dance is generally performed in one type of formal procedure, which is act upon called Khuangchawi.

It is performed to maintain the difference positioned in the general public. It is also performed to have a position in the heaven or it is known as Pialral. To perform this dance one has to obtain the popular label of Thangchhuah. Well, there are two different methods of attaining such fascinating label.

The first option to get the title of Thangchhuah is as follows. It is not easy to receive the title of Thangchhuah. Who so ever, are interested in obtaining title of Thangchhuah , one has to prove the spirit in the war or he has an option of hunting.

Hunting includes the activity of killing of number of animals. These are wild animals, like wild boar, deer, bear, viper, wild gayal, hawk, and number of other animals. The second option to receive the title is of Thangchhuah is defined as under: anyone can easily receive the title of Thangchhuah, unless they work hard for it.

Thangchhuah is received by method of feats. There is one more method through which you can achieve Thangchhuah is by dancing. It is not all easy for everyone to get the title of Thangchhuah. Therefore, in general people need to have money or bravery to have title of Thangchhuah. The second method, ritual managed is known as Khuangchawi.

For the Khuangchawi ritual performed are invited guests from all near villages. Guests come from all near villages, who are invited to see the beautiful danced called the ceremony Khuangchawi performed by the people of Mizoram. Guests are welcomed to see the Khuallam dancing arena.

People of Mizoram wear traditional cloth, which is hand woven. The traditional, Mizo hand woven cloth is called as Puandum. Puandum is wrapped up on top of the shoulders. While, dancing the wrapped cloth called Puandum, sways in the air. Generally, people dancing wear Puandum in colors, like red, black, yellow as well as green stripes.

Well, Puandum is one of the cloth items, which is not all required. But it is given to every girl, after she gets married to take along with them. It is required, whenever the husband die to cover up the dead body. The dance is performed by some special dance groups.

These dance groups are of Mizos, which goes together with a set of gongs known as Darbu. You will notice that there is no song sung by anyone in the group or outsiders as well. Generally, the dance is carried out in large numbers.
