Beaches – Pondicherry
Pondicherry is blessed with beautiful beaches. In fact a trip to the beaches of Pondy is a must while visiting here. The weather is quite muggy and hot during the year. The summer season extends March till July and temperatures can reach 40 C or 104 F.

The winter season runs through December to February and is also the high tourist season. Temperatures are around 30 C or around mid 80 F. the evenings are cooler and the days are quite pleasant. Most of the beaches are away from the main city apart from the stretch behind Seagulls restaurant, though this stretch isn’t favored much as it’s quite rocky.

The promenade
Tourists and locals alike like to visit the various beeches. Pondy lies on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal and is one of the most beautiful cities of South India.

The Promenade which is runs for 1.5 km along the beach of Pondy is known as the pride of the place. There are many important landmarks around this area. The statues of Joan of Arc and Mahatma Gandhi provide inspiration and strength. The War memorial is present here as is the heritage town hall. There are remains of the old pier and the old customs house. These speak of an era that’s gone by.

Paradise & Serenity beaches
Paradise Beach is located about 8 kms away from the city. The road to this beech is accessible through the Chunnambar resort and can only be accessed through a boat. The Serenity Beach is a 10 minute drive to the north of the city and is known for its calm spots.

It’s a totally virgin beach and great for lazing around. The Auroville beach is located near Auroville and is located about 12 kms outside the city. Its shallow waters are ideal for snorkeling and swimming. The beach is brimming with people on weekends, while on weekdays it’s quite empty.

Many beach resorts
There are many beach resorts in the city. Many of the hotels have their own private beeches, where tourist can have fun. There are also many restaurants in the city that serve many kinds of cuisines.

Indian, Italian, French, British, Continental are the cuisines that are enjoyed by the locals and the travelers. There is a wide variety of accommodation available that cater to all sections of travelers.
