Beautiful
beaches at Pondy
The beaches at Pondicherry are very clean and muggy. It has 4 beaches
and all of them are relatively clean and neat compared to the rest of
India. The Promenade runs about 1.5 km along the beach of Pondy and
there are several landmarks on the Promenade.
The paradise Beach
is 8 km away from the city and can only be accessed through a boat. The
Serenity Beach is a 10 minute drive and is an ideal place for lazing
around.
Beautiful temples,
mosques and churches that date back to early centuries
There are many temples in Pondy, like the Manakula Vinayagar Koil which
is more than 300 years old and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and more
than 5000 devotees flock to the temple everyday. Varadaraja Perumal
temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and dates back to 600 AD.
There are also many
churches in Pondy and some of the most famous ones are Notre Dame De,
Church of the Assumption, The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. The
mosques in Pondy are Jamai Mosque, Meeran mosque and Mulla Mohhamed
Mosque.
Beautiful
botanical gardens
The Botanical Gardens stands apart from its surroundings since they are
in the middle of the old Tamil Quarters. It has more than 1500 species
of plants is easily one of the best botanical gardens in South India.
Shopper’s
paradise
Pondy is also known for its shopping. Some of the favorite things for
sopping include leather goods including leather chairs, purses and
handbags. The silk and textile is equally famous. Since it’s close to
the temple towns of Madurai and Trichy, the silks available here are
beautiful. Pondy is well known for hand made paper and Auroville also
sells products made of hand made paper.
