The
Bharathi Park
Bharathi Park or Government Park as its known is the green lungs of the
French Quarter. Trees provide the much needed shade for all those who
come here. Children can run across the park or dip inside the pond. The
elders can chat on the granite benches, while it’s quite popular with
families who are out for a picnic.
Keezhoor
This is a border village that is located 28 kms away from Pondy. There
is a banyan tree which is 400 years old and its aerial branches cover
at least a few acres to say the least. It’s a historic place as it was
here that the voting for merger with the India took place in 1954.
Chunnambar
beach
Chunnabar backwaters are located 8 kms away from Pondicherry and have a
creek on one side. In fact many tourists prefer to sail downstream and
pitch a tent. While others can stay at the tree houses on the banks and
cherish the experience.
The beach here is
known as Plage Paradiso, which has pristine white sands. It’s a great
place for sunbathing and water sports. One can enjoy walking down the
banks and just watch as the waves hit the shore.
A cruise into the
sea brings many surprises and one can enjoy the sight of the playful
dolphins in their natural habitat. There are enough water sports for
tourists to enjoy here. The restaurant here serves North Indian and
Chinese dishes. The place is great for theme parties.
Pondicherry doesn’t
have forests or hills. There’s plenty of marine life that is visible,
when one ventures out in the sea. Be sure to take an experienced guide.
