There is a Thrissur wildlife sanctuary that is present near the city. This was established by the prominent ornithologist, Dr. Salim Alim. He is said to have identified 167 birds in this sanctuary. In addition, one of his students, Dr. Sugathan, also identified another 207 species of birds. |
The Bombay Natural History Society also identified as many as 253 species. There are several birds in this sanctuary that are an essential part of Thrissur wildlife, India. Thrissur wildlife also has a collection of rare birds such as the bee-eaters,
crimson throated barbets, fairy bluebirds, shrikes, black winged kites, grey headed fishing eagles, grey hornbills, night herons and Malabar hornbills. The reason is obvious that besides the natural beauty, the tourists can view the wildlife in their natural habitats that has become a rare opportunity today.
