Uniqueness
India is a great place for tourists as they stand a great chance of
witnessing innumerable variations. Tripura is a state located to the
North East of India. It has lots of greenery as the North Eastern
Indian states are characterized by loads of nature and are sanctified
for being a spot of abundant flora and fauna.
The Tripuris believe
in shifting cultivation. The natives of Tripura pray to god (Garia) to
ensure a good harvest. The celebrations that are attached to the Garia
Puja prolong for seven days. During this time period, the natives keep
on entertaining their deities constantly with various types of dances
and songs.
Dances
There are different types of dances such as Lebang Boomani Dance. This
is a typical dance based on the incoming of the colorful insects
‘Lebang’. These insects visit annually and the men-folk use bamboo
chips and makes a rhythmic sound, while the women run behind these
insects to trap it.
This rhythmic sound
and the bamboo chips sound hauls the insects from their concealed
places and women catch them. Though these dances do not exist on the
hills, yet as reminiscence it is preserved and treasured. Tripuris use
musical instruments such as Khamb, Flute, Sarinda and Lebang made of
bamboo.
Similarly, other
prominent dances are the Hozagiri Dance and this is an excellent type
of dance as they stand on earthen pitchers with bottle and a lighted
lamp on the head. The dance has lots of twists to the second half of
the body and their dance literally bewilders the tourists. Flowers are
their ornaments. Bizu is another popular dance and is a specialty of
the Chakma community.
This is a dance
bidding farewell to the ending year and a welcome to the coming year.
The Hak-Hak Dance is to adore Goddess Laxmi. This dance rhythm reflects
the inherited tradition of the past. Besides this there are few more
prominent dances such as Wangala dance, Welcome dance, Cheraw dance and
Way Lamp festival.
