Ujjayanta Palace is a tourist attraction sited in the city and the
royal residence of Manikya Kings displays immense Mughal style gardens,
beautiful ceilings, wooden doors and magnificent tile floorings. This
state has Museum, numerous temples, tribal Museum and Buddhist sites.
Another significant
place is the Unakoti and is a splendid place as you can find various
rock carvings and murals blend with primitive beauty. The carvings
depict Hindu mythology. The other palace that the Manikyas constructed
was the Kunjaban Palace. This palace is a royal palace as well bearing
an association with Tagore. The picturesque locality instigated him to
compose numerous songs.
Neermahal palace is
situated on the Rudrasagar Lake Island and depicts Mughal influence in
the architecture making it a great tourist attraction. The Sepahijala
Wildlife Sanctuary has an immense forestland abundant in flora and
fauna.
You can watch rare
spectacled monkey, deer and numerous species of birds in this
sanctuary. Pilak and Venuban Vihara are also significant places of
visit. The Pilak houses have images of Hindu as well as Buddhist faith
such as Narasimha and Avolokiteshwar. Venuban Vihara has well preserved
metal idols of Lord Buddha of Burmese origin.
