The state of Uttar
Pradesh is a state that captivates tourists due to various reasons. The

have developed in this state. The main dances within this state are
Charkula, Karma, Dadra and Kathak. The first three are well known folk
dances of the region and the last one is a classical dance.
Dances
Folk Dances such as Ras-lila and Charkula are popular dances belonging
to the times of Lord Krishna. Ras-lila explains the love of Radha and
Lord Krishna. Charkula is a dance performed on religious and social
occasions. Karma is a tribal dance and is popular in Bundelkhand region.
Dadra is another
popular dance with sexual overtones. Charkula dance refers to the birth
of Krishna. This dance is popular as it has numerous legends associated
regarding his Lord Krishna’s birth, the milkmaids being troubled by
lord Krishna and the way he held the hillock Govardhan in his finger,
etc.
Kathak is the
versatile forms of art and is the popular a folk and classical dance.
This dance has come across volatile changes responding to the downfall
of monarch in India. Some of the popular exponents are Lacchu Maharaj,
Birju Maharaj, Thakur Prasad, Sitara Devi and Sambhu Maharaj.
Raslila is
significant art forms comprising areas of Mathura. The dance is about
Lord Krishna and the milkmaids. The songs and the dance performances of
all these dances are very natural.
