- Touts (person who ask for money in a demanding and importune way) are all over place, especially in places where it is known to be a tourist attraction and where tourist would be. There are many, who poses as “Pundits” and solicits money from the believers who visits the temples and Ghats to show their devotion.
- When going around Varanasi, negotiate transportation fares in advance. Ask the rickshaw driver how much the charge would be for the trip before riding and ask the taxi driver to make sure that their taxi is metered, if not, demand that it should be metered. Drivers tend to overcharge tourist and take them for a ride, so tourist needs to do a little research for direction information before taking on an adventure.
- Buy handicraft item directly to the seller, you do not need to negotiate with an agent. Sellers in a shop are very helpful and can help you with your questions.
- Snatching and pick pocketing are common in crowded places, so make sure to keep an eye to your things. Do not wear opulent jewelleries and flashy accessories to avoid being victimized. |
